What We Believe

We believe in living out our Christian faith as effectively as possible, making an impact with those who do not know the great news about Jesus Christ.

As orthodox evangelical Presbyterians we subscribe to Kupu Whakapono - the statement of faith for the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand which you can find here:

We believe scripture is the inspired written word of God which holds supremacy in our teaching.  We believe that scripture is the story of God's redemptive plan for all of creation and that Jesus' time on earth - his life, death and resurrection - was the culmination of that plan and of all of human history.  We seek to understand the world through the story and person of Christ as we look forward with hope to his return.

At GPC we follow Jesus and are mission focused, so central to the way we work are the Great Commandment and the Great Commission:

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… love your neighbour as yourself" (Mt 22:37-40).

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Mt 28:19-20).

We also believe that everyone is welcome in God's Kingdom and also in our church.  We are a diverse bunch of people all united in our belief in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. You would fit right in!
